COVID-19 and Spanish Trade Fairs: Historical Context

Historical context, reviewed 9 October 2026: This article originally discussed the disruption to Spanish trade fairs during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is an archive of that business context. It does not establish that a venue, stand layout or device prevents infection.

COVID-19 changed how exhibitors planned attendance, meetings and stand delivery. The useful lesson for exhibition teams is to record the organiser’s current requirements and agree who is responsible for each part of the event plan.

How COVID-19 affected Spanish trade fairs

Restrictions and changing attendance conditions disrupted in-person events and their suppliers. Exhibitors had to revisit bookings, production schedules, staffing and customer meetings. References to a return to normal in the original article described that period, rather than the conditions at a future event.

What belongs in an exhibitor’s operational brief

  • The event, venue, stand allocation and current organiser instructions.
  • The people responsible for stand design, installation, handover and on-site queries.
  • The planned visitor activities, meeting areas and access routes.
  • The applicable venue services and requirements, confirmed for that booking.
  • A contingency plan for changes to attendance, staffing or delivery.

Agree these details with the organiser and relevant suppliers before approving the layout. A stand contractor can document the proposed structure and services; a marketing article cannot determine the health suitability of the venue or activity.

Use current information for a new event

Consult the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 information, the relevant public authority and the organiser’s current instructions. Old descriptions of screens, temperature checks or ultraviolet equipment should not be reused as present-day health recommendations.

For the exhibition project itself, use a stand design brief that identifies the actual activities, layout and supplier responsibilities. Keep the dated event instructions with that brief so the team knows which version it approved.
